Volunteer at The Clearwater School
We welcome your support as a Clearwater volunteer! Whether you are a family member, a neighbor, a student, or a supporter of self-directed education, your contributions are welcome. The opportunities range from sharing expertise, helping with land stewardship on our four-acre riparian forest, cleaning, building things, to serving as a staff substitute. You do not need special skills. You do need to be willing to learn how to be supportive in a youth-led space. One way to learn this, and sometimes the most powerful way to be a volunteer, is to co-create with us.

School Day & Event Support
When staff are absent, we’re grateful to call on volunteer substitutes to help out during the school day. Volunteer substitutes must complete a background check, an orientation, and training sessions. To apply, fill out the application below or email us with any questions.
Our event planning committee plans multiple events throughout the school year. We welcome support that ranges from coordinating potlucks, taking tickets at concerts and plays, event set up, and clean up. There’s always a way to support school events! And it is a great way to get to know each other and build community.

School Improvement
Throughout the year, we host grounds and maintenance work parties to clean, maintain, and repair the school both inside and out! These are open to the whole community. Look for the next work party dates on our events page.
Do you have a different kind of skill that you could contribute to improve our school? We are interested in graphic design, IT support, carpentry, screen printing, and more. Please let us know your expertise to see how we can collaborate.
In 2019 Mikey Mike The Rad Scientist came and shared some science themed songs and activities with us!
Skill Share with Students
We are always looking for ways to connect students with community members who have shared interests. We sometimes host guests to lead an activity at school for the day or provide ongoing support. In the past, we have invited professional artists and computer scientists to teach class series, called on musicians to play with us, and hosted bread baking days. We would love to know if you are willing to share expertise in a special interest (no matter how obscure) so that we can connect you with our students.
